Coventry University is a Hedgehog Friendly Campus and has achieved the Bronze Accreditation in the Hedgehog Friendly Campus Awards 2021-22. Hedgehog Friendly Campus is a UK-wide award scheme funded by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) that encourages teams of staff and students to apply hedgehog-friendly actions on and around their university, college or school. After holding a launch event during September 2021 Welcome Week, the team – made up of both staff and students – has had regular meetings and delivered various campaigns, including an awareness week on hedgehog safety in the run-up to Bonfire Night and Diwali. On a practical level, members of the Grounds team have also attended training on hedgehog first aid and appropriate land management, built hedgehog houses on campus, and added stickers to strimmers and mowers reminding users to always check for hedgehogs before they start their work. If you would like to get involved in Hedgehog Friendly Campus then get in touch with the Environment Team.
